In honor of Black History Month, Allen Ellison, candidate for U.S. senator from Florida, will deliver a keynote address Feb. 21 at Florida Southern College’s Simmons Center for Multicultural Appreciation from 5:30-6:30 p.m. about his journey into politics and the need to provide different channels and platforms to allow for the diversity of voices.

“Black History Month was created not just to celebrate the accomplishments of our past Black leaders but to learn from them as we forge a better future for people of all ethnicities, genders and backgrounds,” said Ellison. “My life has been shaped by these past leaders, but it is still being shaped by my family, friends and the people who I meet every day.”

“I’m honored to share my experiences in the community, in politics and as a small businessman with the Simmons Center for Multicultural Appreciation and its mission of multiculturalism, social justice and inclusion for all people.”

The event is free and open to the public.  It will be held at Badcock Memorial Garden located at Florida Southern College, 111 Lake Hollingsworth Drive, Lakeland, FL 33801.
