Following weeks of pressure from House Republican leadership, the Biden Administration is set to ban Russian oil imports today.

Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA), who called for these sanctions even before Russia invaded Ukraine, gave the following statement:

“This is a necessary move that should have happened months ago. While I am glad that the Biden Administration is holding Putin accountable for his war crimes, I am disturbed by reports that they are shopping for oil in Iran, Venezuela, and Saudi Arabia. All of these countries are ruled by a dictator. We need to be producing oil here, not lining the pockets of world leaders who stand for everything our country is against. Now is the time to unleash not only American energy independence, but American energy dominance.”
