Secretary of State Katie Hobbs condemned the U.S. Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision to allow a Texas abortion ban to stay in effect, ignoring decades of precedent set by Roe v. Wade.

The decision has devastating consequences for women in Texas—and across the country—undermining the viability of Roe v. Wade in states with Republican-led legislatures, including Arizona. In July, Governor Doug Ducey joined 11 Republican governors and other Arizona Republicans in asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade.

“I am outraged that the Supreme Court has chosen to blatantly ignore Roe v. Wade and strip Texans of their right to make their own choices with their bodies. This decision is a clear infringement on our reproductive and constitutional rights and paves the way to overturn a decades-long decision,” said Katie Hobbs. “Now, every single candidate in this race must make it known where they stand: with Arizonans, or with a rigid agenda to deprive people of making their own medical choices.”
