LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — Former Razorback and business owner Chris Bequette is running for Arkansas lieutenant governor.

Bequette announced his campaign Tuesday morning in a press release.

“Republicans have neglected to address the massive violent crime surge, failing to overhaul and strengthen a soft-on-crime criminal justice system. As a former prosecutor and the only candidate in this race with law enforcement experience, I stand ready to protect our state,” Bequette said in the release.

Bequette was born in Missouri but attended the University of Arkansas where he played as a Razorback for four years. He is the uncle of Jake Bequette, who is running for the U.S. Senate.

Bequette has a license to practice law in Arkansas and Missouri and currently lives in Little Rock.

He joins the lieutenant governor race with former GOP chairman Doyle Webb, State Senator Jason Rapert, Surgeon General Dr. Greg Bledsoe and Washington County Judge Joseph Wood.

As of now, no Democrats have announced bids to run.
