Helena Foulkes, who has entered the Rhode Island governor's race, told us having never run for office before is a plus.
“I think for too long we have settled for mediocrity in this state,” she said Friday. “I’d like to raise the bar.”
Foulkes is a Rhode Island native who went from Harvard to a 25-year career at CVS.
“I think what I bring is an ability to make things happen, make things happen for Rhode Islanders,” she said. “It’s what you have to do in business.”
Just after she entered the political realm and announced her candidacy as a Democrat a few months ago, Foulkes ended up apologizing for a previous campaign donation to U.S. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell.
She also just changed campaign managers.
When asked if she thinks her campaign got off to a rocky start, she said she thinks, “things have been going great.”
