Black History is American History

by KJ on Feb/23/2022 (Maryland, USA)

As we end the month dedicated to the celebration of Black History, I challenge each and every one of us to continue lifting up voices and stories of the history and extraordinary accomplishments of African-Americans all year round.

“The lack of true freedom is a modern form of bondage“

~ James Tarantin, US Senate Candidate, Maryland

When I look at achievements such as the leadership of Booker T. Washington; the courage of David Walker and The Appeal; the foresight of Thomas Sowell; and the intelligence of Katherine Johnson, I am inspired. They, like so many African-Americans, overcame great struggle and in spite of it all, were integral in the forward progression of our nation. I was talking to candidate for United States Senate, James Tarantin, and he had this to say. “The history of African-Americans inspired me as a dark-skinned Jew growing up in Israel. I experienced bullying and discrimination due to my darker skin. I was called names like, “blackey” and “kushi,” which means the “n” word in Hebrew. I was drawn to the courageous men and women in African-American history through their messages of hope, light, and unity. We need unity more than ever at this time in history and that is why I am running to be the next United States Senator of Maryland. I want to heal America and will work to implement reforms that ensure Washington works for us; not against us. Just as the great figures in African-American history initiated the call for freedom and equality, I want to be that new voice in the senate. We need fresh energy, new ideas, and a clear understanding that being free on paper is not a substitute for experiencing true freedom. The lack of true freedom is a modern form of bondage.”
