Elvin J. Dowling is a native of West Palm Beach and an award-winning author, activist, and ‘agent of change.’

Dowling, a recent Palm Beach State College MLK Leadership award winner, says he believes in leadership by example.

The college hosted an MLK celebration ceremony in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, with a familiar face as the keynote speaker.

Dowling works to educate the next generation by equipping them with the resources and skills they need to be productive members of society.

His work includes the securing of two $1 million grants for mentoring activities for more than 2,000 at-risk young people as part of President Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative.

Alberto Leal, an attorney from Lake Worth; Robin Johnson-Blake, a staff member at Palm Beach State College who, as the college’s first director of community relations, helps build partnerships in the community; the Emanuel Jackson Sr. Project of Delray Beach, and award-winning author Elvin Dowling all walked away with awards.
