Beaverton, OR – Today, the Tobias Read for Governor campaign announced the endorsement of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, author, business executive, and lecturer Sheryl WuDunn. WuDunn and her husband, former candidate for governor Nicholas Kristof, are the authors of Tightrope, a book that tells the heartbreaking story of rural Oregonians who lost good-paying blue collar jobs, leading to alcoholism and addiction.
“Oregon has a proud tradition of coming together to solve big problems, but we’re seeing less and less of that today,” said Sheryl WuDunn. “From homelessness to education to climate change, our challenges are bigger than ever, but our government hasn’t risen to meet them. Tobias Read will. He’s shown throughout his career that he can do big things. From passing full-day kindergarten to implementing the first of its kind state retirement savings program, Tobias has delivered. We can count on him to challenge the status quo in Salem and get results for Oregonians from every corner of our state.”
Treasurer Read is honored to receive the endorsement from The New York Times first Asian-American reporter, who received the Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting with Kristof. WuDunn and Kristof won the prize for their coverage of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and massacre. They were the first married couple ever to win a Pulitzer for journalism; WuDunn was the first female Asian-American reporter to win a Pulitzer.

WuDunn is the latest in a string of high-profile endorsements for Read in recent weeks. He’s also been endorsed by former Governors Barbara Roberts and John Kitzhaber and Unite Here Local 8.
