Les Gara for Governor: Love and Prayers to Katie Hurley

Alaska

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

We lost a giant today. Katie Hurley was grace and accomplishment personified. You probably know she was a big part of Alaska’s Constitutional Convention team over 6 decades ago. She stood up for us as a legislator, and was the first woman in Alaska to win a statewide race, winning the Democratic Primary in 1978. When we saw each other she’d always start with a hug and a gracious compliment, when more compliments were deserved by her. She spent her life standing up for what was right. I was saddened by her declining health, and am saddened by her passing. I’m richer to have known her, and we’re all richer that she never turned down a request to help on a good cause. Love and prayers to Katie, and all who cared for her and loved her.
