STATEMENT ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF JAN. 6, 2021

Oklahoma

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

“January 6, 2021, was undoubtedly one of the darkest days in our Nation’s history. That day, we witnessed both the fragility and resilience of our democracy within a span of a few hours. As we reflect one year later, with the images of that tragic day still vivid in our minds, let us continue to mourn for those lost while also being emboldened to protect our democracy. Our democracy can only survive if we all can—and do—participate and make our voices heard.

Our Constitution and the central tenets on which our country was founded are not up for debate. They are not susceptible to extremist whims. On and since January 6th, Senator Lankford has shown us that he is willing to undermine our democracy and the will of the American people for personal political gain. Oklahomans deserve a Senator who will stand for and protect our Constitution. As an attorney and when I worked at the US State Department, I vowed to uphold our Constitution, and I take that vow very seriously. I believe in the democracy our Nation was built upon. I look forward to serving Oklahomans and amplifying all Oklahomans’ voices in the United States Senate. Oklahomans deserve a Senator who will fight for the rights of all people at all costs. I promise to do just that.”
