Republican Chris Doughty, the president of a manufacturing company based in Wrentham, is joining the race to succeed Gov. Charlie Baker who is not running for a third term.

In a campaign video released Wednesday, Doughty said he has experience creating jobs for Massachusetts residents.

“First and foremost, Massachusetts has become unaffordable for many of our residents,” he said in the video. “Going hand in hand with affordability is making sure that our economy fully rebounds and continues to grow. We need to protect our business and recruit high paying quality jobs to relocate here.”

Doughty describes himself as a moderate Republican. The only other Republican in the race right now is Geoff Diehl, a former state lawmaker endorsed by former president Donald Trump.

Doughty is an investor and partner with Capstan Industries, which produces precision metal parts. Originally from Utah, he attended Harvard Business School.

Early Democratic favorite Maura Healey announced her campaign for governor last week. She joined two other prominent Democrats already in the race: state Sen. Sonia Chang-Díaz and Harvard professor Danielle Allen.
