PATCHOGUE, NY - Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1) issued the following statement after reports that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York are investigating Governor Andrew Cuomo’s COVID-19 policy regarding nursing homes and other long term care facilities:

“The families of thousands of dead New York seniors deserve accountability and justice for the true consequences of Governor Cuomo’s fatally flawed nursing home policy.

“In just the last month, we have witnessed the Cuomo cover-up go off the rails, with the state’s Attorney General revealing his administration underreported nursing home deaths by 50%, one of his top advisors admitting that nursing home death information was withheld to thwart a DOJ investigation, and, most recently, with Governor Cuomo doing his dirty work himself, directly threatening those who dare speak out on this issue.

“It is clear that what is happening here is criminal, the Governor’s emergency powers need to be revoked, and there must be an investigation into the implementation of the policy, the cover up, and the continued attempts to avoid necessary transparency and accountability for grieving New York families.”

Last week, Congressman Zeldin led the entire New York GOP Congressional Delegation in calling on Acting Attorney General Monty Wilkinson to open a DOJ investigation into New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and his administration following bombshell reports that a top aide to Governor Cuomo just admitted that their office, in an effort to block a DOJ investigation, hid from federal authorities information on nursing home deaths caused by the Governor’s nursing home mandate.
