She was a supporter of the “Martha Hughes Cannon Caucus” that former Rep. Rebecca Chavez-Houck and I founded to bring current and former women legislators together to discuss and support issues as well as mentor interns and young women interested in public service. It is of course named after Utah State Sen. Martha Hughes Cannon, the first woman elected to a state senate in the U.S. in 1896. In 2017 Beverly White came to one of our meetings at the Capitol and brought the book she authored, “Women Legislators of Utah 1896-1993.” She dazzled every one of us with her extensive knowledge of the issues our state has wrestled with for decades and the people and the policies that have made the difference. I will miss her.
