Arizona Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs appeared on MSNBC’s The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell to discuss the U.S. Supreme Court’s reported decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and the implications of that ruling for Arizona. During the interview, Secretary Hobbs called on Gov. Doug Ducey and the Republican legislature to immediately repeal the pre-Roe law, still on the books after more than a century, that could instantly ban abortion in Arizona if and when Roe v. Wade is officially overturned.
“We knew this was coming,” said Secretary Hobbs. “There is a 1901 ban on the books that completely criminalizes abortion and requires prison time. I’m calling on the Governor and Republican legislature to repeal this law so that there is not a complete and total abortion ban in our state once Roe is overturned.”
