Bridget Barton for Governor: September is National Recovery Month

Oregon

September is National Recovery Month. For me, September marks 40 years since I put down my last drink and began a new life free from alcohol. I’m 68 now, and I’ve spent many of those 40 years working with peers in recovery—giving people from all walks of life hope that freedom from drugs and alcohol is possible.

I’m grateful for support from others in recovery like my friend Pam Flora Pearce who started the first substance-free, recovery high school in Oregon.

Oregon is nationally the highest in addiction and the lowest in treatment beds. The radical left threw gasoline on the fire by backing a 2020 law that legalized hard drugs like meth and heroin.  As Governor, I’ll appoint a director whose sole focus will be solving Oregon’s alcohol and drug addiction crisis. I’ll also ask Oregon parents and grandparents to join me in repealing the legalization of hard drugs in Oregon. Almost every family in our state is touched by this issue — I will seek solutions relentlessly.
