This week, Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH5) led twenty of his House colleagues in introducing a resolution condemning the Biden Administration’s hypocritical and contradictory energy policies while calling on President Biden to reverse course and invest in American energy. This came after the White House National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, appealed to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and Russia to increase oil production in response to the rising gasoline prices in the United States and around the world.
“Since the President assumed office, he has continued to attack American energy while requesting that undemocratic countries like Russia, Iran, and Venezuela increase production,” said Latta. “American oil and natural gas are more heavily regulated in the United States than anywhere in the world. They produce cleaner and safer energy that power our homes, businesses, and vehicles.”
“The Biden Administration’s reliance on our adversaries to produce energy for the United States threatens our national and energy security,” Latta continued. “I condemn the administration’s hypocritical attacks on U.S. energy companies and strongly urge President Biden to invest in American energy, which is better for the environment, for our national security, and for prices at the pump.”
Since January, the Biden Administration has taken executive actions that increase the United States’ reliance on foreign energy, including through the cancellation of the Keystone XL Pipeline and the placement of a moratorium on domestic oil and gas leases on federal land. Conversely, the Biden Administration has waived Congressionally-mandated sanctions on Russia’s Nord Stream 2 Pipeline and is now appealing to the OPEC+ countries to increase their oil production.
