February is Black History Month. Each week I’m highlighting Kansans who have shaped our community and influenced our nation’s history. Today we celebrate the life of Dr. Ron Walters. Born in Wichita, Walters organized the historic Dockum Drug Store sit-in to protest segregation at just 20 years old. A leader in the civil rights movement, he influenced public policy and academia at many universities, including Howard University, Harvard University, and the University of Maryland. Last week the Wichita Public Library opened the Dr. Ronald W. Walters Branch Library in his honor. #KansasHistory
