HARRISBURG – A $300,000 state grant will help remediate the former Central Hotel Building property in the Borough of Lewistown, according to Representative John Hershey (R-Mifflin/Juniata/Franklin) and Senator Jake Corman (R-Centre/Huntingdon/Mifflin/Juniata).
The current structure on the property is dilapidated and at risk of collapse. The state funding will aid in the demolition of the building and site redevelopment for a proposed borough police station.
“This is fantastic news for Lewistown. The changes at the property will not only improve its aesthetics, but also set it up to eventually be used to make important contributions to public safety,” Hershey said.
“This property is a major gateway street to the downtown area, so addressing this project is a priority in the Lewistown community,” Corman said. “I appreciate the fact that this grant will help return a blighted property to productive use in the near future.”
The property is located at the corner of East Third and Valley Street.
The grant was funded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which is an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development that administers many of Pennsylvania’s economic development and community improvement programs.
