The extreme cold and increased energy costs over this past week are quickly creating disastrous conditions in our state. Natural gas prices that are 100 to 200 times normal pricing are unacceptable and will devastate Kansas families, businesses and localities. That's why I'm working with state and local officials along with utility providers to take the steps needed to address this crisis, and I'm calling on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to use whatever means necessary to protect Kansas consumers. We must ensure an adequate supply of affordable energy and natural gas is available for families, farmers, and businesses in Kansas and the Midwest.
