HARRISBURG – The American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries (ASLCS) recently honored Pennsylvania Senate Secretary-Parliamentarian Megan Martin as the recipient of the 2021 Legislative Staff Achievement Award for her efforts to improve and modernize the operations of the Senate.

As the Secretary-Parliamentarian of the Pennsylvania Senate, Martin has spearheaded efforts to make the Senate operate more efficiently and effectively. Under her leadership at the outset of the COVID-19 emergency, the Senate was the first legislative chamber in the nation to meet virtually to address the immediate needs of state residents during the pandemic.

Since she was first elected to the position in 2012, Martin implemented reforms resulting in more than $4.8 million in savings – many of which are annual cost reductions that will continue to benefit taxpayers in the years to come.

“Secretary Martin has brought an unparalleled sense of bipartisanship and professionalism to the job, and her record of achievement in this role is second to none,” said Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman (R-Bellefonte). “She richly deserves this national acclaim for her commendable service to the institution of the Senate and the taxpayers of Pennsylvania.”

The 2021 Legislative Staff Achievement Award is designed to recognize legislative clerks, secretaries and staff who demonstrate excellence in supporting the work of a state legislature and strengthening the legislative institution. The award is presented annually by ASLCS, which is one of nine professional staff associations with the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL).

Martin is a graduate of Archmere Academy, the University of Delaware and Widener University School of Law.
