HARRISBURG – Senator Jake Corman (R-Bellefonte) and Representative John Hershey (R-Juniata) celebrated a groundbreaking event for a new facility in Lewistown to improve the lives of people with vision, physical or mental impairments.
NuVisions received a $1 million grant from the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program to acquire and renovate an existing building at 20 Depot Street. Renovations will include manufacturing and office space to accommodate truck traffic access for delivery and shipping purposes.
The new location will offer services including transportation, transitional help, counseling, bill paying and networking.
“NuVisions has been helping disabled community residents earn a greater sense of self-sufficiency for more than 75 years,” Corman said. “I look forward to seeing how this new facility will expand their capabilities to help local individuals with health challenges adapt and learn the job skills they need to be more independent.”
“This grant will help NuVisions modernize its operations and continue building on the respectable foundation it has established in the Juniata Valley, where the services are vital for our blind and visually impaired neighbors,” Hershey said. “I’m so grateful for the work NuVisions does on a daily basis to meet a variety of needs.”
The new site also has adequate parking for staff, clients and visitors and is located in an area that is safe for pedestrian travel.
