HARRISBURG – Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman (R-Bellefonte) and Representative John Hershey (R-Mifflin/Juniata/Franklin) announced a state grant that will support the expansion of the Mifflin County Academy of Science and Technology.

The $3 million grant will be used to construct a new, single-story building to house the Academy Center for Mechanical and Production Training. In addition, the funding will support other site improvements to accommodate the expansion of programming in the heavy equipment operation fields.

“The Academy does a great job of preparing students for quality careers in a number of different industries through its vocational and technical educational programs,” Corman said. “I look forward to seeing how this expansion will accommodate new job training programs to serve the community.”

“My congratulations to The Academy on this funding. Equipment operators are always in high demand, and this training facility will help to prepare job seekers for careers that offer family-sustaining wages,” Hershey said.

The grant was awarded as part of the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which is administered by the Office of the Budget. The program supports the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects.
