HARRISBURG – Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman (R-Bellefonte) issued the following statement regarding the preliminary maps approved by the Legislative Reapportionment Commission:

“I am disappointed that the preliminary maps make significant and unnecessary changes to the 34th Senatorial District. This includes splitting Centre County as was done by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court when they redrew Congressional lines in 2018. Carving up the county so many different ways between Congressional, Senate and House lines creates confusion for community residents and weakens the people’s voice in government.

“It is also concerning to see the way other counties were added to and removed from the district, dividing many communities that share the same opinions and values.

“It is important to note that these new district lines are only preliminary and could shift based on public input. Community residents can share their opinions at https://www.redistricting.state.pa.us/ and I encourage them to make their voices heard in this process.”
