Congresswoman Miller Joins Esteemed House Ways and Means Committee

West Virginia

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) today announced her appointment to the esteemed United States House Ways and Means Committee for the 117th Congress. The Ways and Means Committee is the oldest committee in the United States Congress and has jurisdiction over issues that affect West Virginians every day – trade, taxes, and health care.

Congresswoman Miller will serve on the exclusive Trade Subcommittee and Worker and Family Support Subcommittee.

"It is my distinct honor to be selected to serve on the Ways and Means Committee, which is the decision-making power on issues critical to West Virginia – trade, taxes, and health care. I am proud to give West Virginians a seat at the table on these issues, which affect their families, communities, and businesses every day. I am humbled to be the first West Virginia Representative to sit on the Committee in 72 years as well as the first ever female West Virginia Representative on the Committee. I look forward to representing the Mountain State on the most powerful Committee in Congress," said Congresswoman Miller. "In this role, I will continue to advocate for the modernization and revitalization of our region through increased foreign investment and trade. Our energy, manufacturing, and hardwoods industries are the best in the nation and are the key to unlocking a more prosperous future for our state and for our country. I look forward to working with my fellow Committee members to further advance these vital industries as well as West Virginia's wealth, health, and the long-term security of our states' families and businesses. Together, we will continue to make West Virginia the best place to live, work, and raise a family."

"Congress's most senior and powerful Committee welcomes three outstanding new Committee Members who know first-hand how American families and Main Street businesses make our economy grow," said Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Kevin Brady (R-TX). "Rep. Carol Miller is a highly respected business leader and bison farmer from West Virginia. [She brings] valuable Main Street experience and knowledge to our GOP fight to help America defeat the virus, grow America's economy, lower health care costs, sell more Made-in-America products throughout the world, and save Social Security and Medicare once and for all. I'm confident that these members will rise to the occasion to help our economy rebuild from this pandemic."

Reps. Kevin Hern (R-OK) and Lloyd Smucker (R-PA) join Congresswoman Miller as new Republican members of the Ways and Means Committee.
