President Biden has the authority to forgive tens of thousands of dollars in student debt. He could do it today.
Why is this critical? Because so many Americans are trapped under a mountain of debt.
Americans are encouraged to work hard and build themselves up – it's a cornerstone of the American Dream. But, with higher education costs skyrocketing and wages stagnating, with a pandemic raging and the economy staggering, working people are understandably falling behind.
Let me be clear: pursuing an education shouldn't come at the cost of being financially handcuffed the rest of your life.
Forgiving debt will bolster our economy and get folks onto the solid financial footing they need to support their families. It's smart economically, and more importantly, it's undeniably humane.
I'm going to bring this up every chance I get, both in Congress and with President Biden. Because this is action that we can take right now to make a real difference in the lives of so many Americans.
