Our grassroots movement made real change possible in 2021. Congress made historic progress on COVID relief, jobs, infrastructure, and so much more. But we still have a lot to do.
Here are three progressive priorities of mine for 2022:
Safeguarding voting rights: The Republican assault on voting rights began long before Donald Trump's insurrectionist thugs stormed the Capitol on January 6th. But their attacks on democracy have only intensified since; the same authoritarian impulses that fueled that day have energized political efforts all across the country to curb voting rights. We have to stop the Republican effort to dismantle democracy before we lose it.
Taking bold action on the climate crisis: While the bipartisan infrastructure bill represented the largest investment in taking on the climate emergency in history, I won't be letting up. In particular, I'll be fighting to end tax incentives for fossil fuel polluters, and prioritizing the creation of good-paying, green jobs to ensure a clean energy future.
Protecting the right to choose: Right now reproductive rights are not protected under federal law. And right now there are at least five Supreme Court justices eager to strip away the right to safe and legal abortion. Should Roe v. Wade be overturned, at least 20 states would ban or restrict abortions overnight. Congress has to act now to enshrine reproductive rights in federal law.
In 2021, we showed the country that a united Democratic Party can accomplish so much for the American people. But we can't lose our momentum when there's still so much we have to get done. Donate today to keep our progressive fight alive in 2022.
