Ron Wyden: A promise I’ve kept, a thousand times

Oregon

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Today is Oregon's 163rd birthday. It's also Valentine's Day, which makes it a good day to tell you why I love Oregon so much.

I love Oregon because of the people. It's that simple.

Oregonians are big-hearted, resilient, and full of love for this place we are proud to call home. Oregonians will always tell you exactly what they think, usually with a smile.

And Oregonians show up — we show up when our neighbors need help, we show up on election day, and we show up when it's time to talk about the future.

That's the Oregon Way.

Back when I first ran for the Senate, I promised Oregonians that I would visit every single county, every single year, and hold an open-to-all town hall meeting.

Not many people believed that I would keep that promise.

Well, I'm proud to say that I have. From that first one in Fossil (population 515) to the 800th one in 2017 (over 3500 people in the gym!)

And later this month, I'll host my 1000th town hall.

Keeping my promise to host a town hall in every Oregon county, every year, has been one of my top priorities as Oregon's Senator. I love hearing about what's on the mind of working Oregonians because it guides my work in Washington D.C. every day.

That's the Oregon Way.

If you've attended one of my town halls, thank you for being part of this incredible milestone. I look forward to seeing you all at many more town halls to come.
