Ayana Pressley for Congress: Standing with the LGBTQ+ community

Massachusetts

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Seemingly every day, the Administration in Washington, DC is working to marginalize members of the LGBTQ+ community, and deprive them of their most fundamental rights. Let me be clear: it is unconscionable that we are still debating the liberties of people who ask only to be received as their full selves – equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community is non-negotiable.

That’s why we must pass legislation like the Equality Act, which creates a nationwide standard for non-discrimination; it’s why we must celebrate the humanity and the contributions of member of the LGBTQ+ community; it’s why we must stand resolutely shoulder-to-shoulder with the LGBTQ+ community when their rights come under assault from an Administration bent on cruelty and discrimination. Finally, it’s why we must ensure that the voices of LGBTQ+ Americans are present in every policy conversation, reflecting the unique impact and challenges faced by LGBTQ+ people, whether they are encountering housing discrimination, facing challenges accessing culturally-competent healthcare, or living as survivors of sexual violence.
