(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed House Bill 597 (Representative Scott Oelslager), the Fiscal Years 2023-2024 capital reappropriations budget, ensuring that over $2 billion in state capital projects in every one of Ohio’s eighty-eight counties can continue.
"The capital projects reauthorized today support parks, trails, museums, schools, colleges and universities, theaters, arts and recreation centers, and state facilities in communities across Ohio -- providing jobs, building vibrant neighborhoods, and preserving our history," said Governor Mike DeWine.
The state of Ohio continues to be well-positioned financially to support previously authorized capital budget projects. Through February 2022, the state’s General Revenue Fund receipts are 6.5 percent above estimates. Ohio’s economy is surging ahead. The state’s unemployment rate, now down to 4.2 percent, is at lows touched in only two periods before in Ohio history. Our state’s credit rating outlook is stronger than any point in the last 40 years – which is crucially important as we consider bond-financed capital projects.
"The Capital Reappropriations Bill passed both chambers of the Ohio General Assembly unanimously and we are appreciative of the overwhelming support," said Office of Budget and Management Director Kimberly Murnieks.
