Burchett amendment prohibiting airline CEOs paying themselves bonuses with relief money fails
The House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee held a hearing today on coronavirus relief measures related to America's transportation industries and infrastructure assets. These measures are expected to be included in a larger COVID-19 stimulus package.
During the hearing, U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (TN-02) offered an amendment to prohibit airline executives from using coronavirus relief money directed towards their businesses to pay themselves large bonuses. The committee's Democrat majority rejected the Burchett amendment.
"My amendment was straightforward: no taxpayer-funded bonuses for airline CEOs," Rep. Burchettsaid. "Coronavirus relief needs to be targeted where it is needed most, and my amendment would have protected this money from reckless abuse. My Democrat colleagues love to talk about how they are for working Americans, but they just sided with wealthy airline executives over workers."
