U.S. Special Envoy for Iran Robert Malley recently spoke with Chinese vice foreign minister Ma Zhaoxu about Iran's nuclear program. The Chinese Communist Party has confirmed this phone call took place. The U.S. Department of State, however, is refusing to share details of this conversation that might have serious foreign policy and national security implications.

U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (TN-02) is calling on the State Department to come clean about this discussion between the United States' top diplomat to Iran and the Chinese Communist Party.

"The Chinese Communist Party is untrustworthy and one of the last entities we should be consulting regarding the extremist Iranian regime's nuclear capabilities," Rep. Burchett said. "Shady and secretive phone calls with an adversarial country are not the right approach to dealing with this issue. The State Department could clear up a lot of confusion if they were straightforward with the American people and shared details from this phone call."

Rep. Burchett is a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He sits on the Middle East, North Africa, and Global Terrorism Subcommittee, which has jurisdiction over foreign policy related to Iran.
