Yesterday evening, Congressman Meijer (R-MI) released his statement regarding his decision to vote against stripping Rep. Greene of her committee assignments.
"I have been outspoken in condemning the dangerous conspiracy theories that Rep. Taylor Greene has espoused in the past, and believe they have caused tremendous damage to this nation. If the GOP becomes the party of QAnon and plays to the darkest fringes of the online fever swamp, we will never earn the trust of the voters to govern.
"However, this is not a vote on whether or not we approve of Rep. Taylor Greene’s speech, but whether the House as a body should take the unprecedented move of stripping members of committee assignments approved by either party’s conference leadership.
"Today I voted against the resolution to strip Rep. Taylor Greene of her committee assignments, just as I will vote against reciprocal efforts in the future. The responsibility for Rep. Taylor Greene’s committee assignments rests solely with House GOP leadership, and should remain so.
"On a related note, while it did not bear on my process-related objection to this resolution, I appreciate the fact that Rep. Taylor Greene fully recanted her prior support for QAnon and assorted conspiracy theories. It was the right move for her to apologize and state that she was fully in the wrong, and I encourage her to continue to make this point openly in a public fashion."
