Congresswoman Carol Miller Appointed by House Leadership to China Legislation Conference Committee

West Virginia

WASHINGTON D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) today announced her appointment to the China legislation conference committee. The conference committee, which includes a select group of Republican and Democrat members from the United States House of Representatives and Senate, is tasked with producing bipartisan, bicameral legislation to address China's growing threat. Congresswoman Miller was chosen for the role by House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

"China represents the most significant power competition and geopolitical threat to America that we've seen in decades," said Congresswoman Miller. "The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has jeopardized supply chains, unleashed a pandemic that devastated our economy, and moved ahead in the global trade arena without any accountability or repercussions. Those days are over. I look forward to working with my conference committee colleagues to produce legislation that meets this critical moment, confronts China's growing threats, and puts U.S. jobs, prosperity, and national security first. It is high time China is served a reality check, and Congress is going to do just that."

"Countering the Chinese Communist threat is the single most pressing issue we can undertake in this Congress. We cannot continue to choose inaction or a weak approach if we want to secure a revitalization of our domestic manufacturing and bring those jobs back to the United States. This Congress cannot bend or bow to China's lobbying efforts. We need strong voices in this process who will put American interests above all else. I am confident these members will never waver in their commitment to only advance legislation that will help our national security, protect our economic prosperity, and that will hold the CCP accountable," said Leader McCarthy.

Congresswoman Miller's Work on China:

In December 2021, Congresswoman Miller joined with her fellow Ways and Means Committee Member Congressman Darin LaHood (R-IL) to introduce the U.S. Trade Leadership in the Indo-Pacific and China Act. This bipartisan legislation, which Congresswoman Miller has highlighted in hearings and in The Hill, would require the Biden Administration to accelerate U.S. economic leadership in the critical Indo-Pacific region and to swiftly articulate a comprehensive trade strategy with China.

Congresswoman Miller also joined Ways and Means Republican Leader Kevin Brady (R-TX) and all of her Republican colleagues to send a letter to U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai urging the Biden Administration to enforce the U.S.-China Phase One Agreement and hold China accountable for its predatory trade actions around the world.
