Congresswoman Miller Votes to Suspend Trade Relations with Russia and Belarus

West Virginia

WASHINGTON D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) voted to end normal trade relations with Russia and Belarus in the House of Representatives' latest effort to hold Russia accountable for their unjustified invasion of Ukraine. Congresswoman Miller is a co-sponsor of this legislation.

Specifically, H.R. 7108 would suspend "Permanent Normal Trade Relations" for Russia and normal trade relations for Belarus in order to cut off export revenue that can indirectly fund President Putin's war of aggression in Ukraine. The legislation also calls on America's trading partners to take similar steps to end normal trade relations with Russia. This comes after the House of Representatives' bipartisan vote to send an additional $13.6 billion in aid to Ukraine and suspend all oil imports from Russia.

"Today I am proud to stand with Ukraine and vote to suspend normal trade relations with Russia and Belarus. The world must follow our example," said Congresswoman Miller. "We are learning the hard way the consequences of leaning on foreign adversaries for our oil. We must come together to unleash American energy independence in order to bolster our economy, keep energy prices affordable for families struggling with inflation, and supply reliable energy to our friends and allies. America must stand for freedom around the world and hold Vladimir Putin accountable for his atrocities."
