Congresswoman Miller's remarks as prepared:

Good morning everyone. Thank you to Ranking Member Steil for having me here today and for having a roundtable on such an important topic. I have the privilege of introducing Dr. Matthew Christiansen, who serves as West Virginia's Director for the Office of Drug Control Policy.

Dr. Christiansen is familiar with West Virginia's battle against opioids and substance use from working on the front lines in primary care and addiction medicine at Marshall Health and serving as the Medical Director of Ebenezer Medical Outreach, a free clinic in Huntington.

In addition, Dr. Christiansen is an Associate Professor at Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, equipping and training up the next generation of medical professionals in West Virginia.

Dr. Christiansen has led efforts to utilize data driven programming and evidence-based addiction treatment to address drug use across our state. He has implemented joint effort approaches, connecting multiple sectors of society and local leadership to work together to keep families together and engage with individuals struggling with substance abuse disorders.

Our state has been working hard to combat drug addiction and its effects. I know Dr. Christiansen will provide great insight as the Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness and Growth seeks to understand and respond to the rise in substance abuse across America.
