Scandal-Plagued, Anti-Police City Councilman Wrong for Ohio’s First Congressional District

Congressman Steve Chabot's campaign reacted Wednesday to the announcement of scandal-plagued, anti-police Cincinnati City Councilman Greg Landsman as a candidate for Congress in Ohio’s first district.

“Greg Landsman has played a central role in the most corrupt city council in Cincinnati history while aligning himself with the far-left fringe of the Democratic Party,” Chabot campaign advisor Jon Conradi said. “While Congressman Chabot worked tirelessly to save small businesses and jobs during the pandemic and support innovative policies to spur economic growth in first district communities, Greg Landsman was pushing to defund the police — threatening the safety of hardworking families and impeding growth and recovery.”

“Congressman Chabot focuses on his job and does the quiet, hard work to deliver results for southwest Ohio communities,” Conradi continued. “In contrast, Landsman is a dream candidate for the Socialist Squad who will support their hyper partisan agenda, including inflation-fueling government spending, open borders, weakened law enforcement and massive tax hikes on hardworking families and small businesses.”

“Congressman Chabot has a demonstrated track record of winning tough fights and his campaign looks forward to highlighting the contrast between his record of results and the ruinous policies championed by far-left politicians like Greg Landsman,” Conradi added. “Landsman need only look at how the last two elections turned out for Kate Schroder and Aftab Pureval to get a feel for the prospects of his bid for a political promotion.”

Cincinnati City Councilman Greg Landsman Background

Broke the Law in Corruption Scandal: Councilman Landsman, along with four other sitting City Council members, was the subject of three-year long investigation that found the “Gang of Five” guilty of conducting illegal, secret meetings. A Hamilton County judge said Landsman lied to the public and should resign from office.

Cincinnati Enquirer (3/7/19): Judge Tells City Council’s ‘Gang of Five’ They Should Apologize and Resign Over Secret Texts

“A Hamilton County judge gave a tongue-lashing Thursday to five Cincinnati City Council members who broke the law by secretly conducting public business via text messages.Common Pleas Judge Robert Ruehlman told the five they violated the trust of voters and should immediately resign from office. ‘You essentially lied to the people of this city,’ Ruehlman said. ‘The trust is gone. It’s going to take a long time to get that trust back…’ The five council members – Wendell Young, P.G. Sittenfeld, Chris Seelbach, Tamaya Dennard and Greg Landsman – all admitted as part of a settlement agreement that they broke Ohio open meetings law by secretly discussing public business in a string of group text messages… Outside the courtroom after the hearing, Landsman said he has no plans to step down. ‘You have to take responsibility for your actions,’ he said, referring to the texts.”

Calling to Defund the Police: In June of 2020, Councilman Landsman proposed taking $200,000 from the Cincinnati police department and rerouting it to the Citizen’s Complaint Authority, which processes complaints relating to police officers. At the time, Landsman said change must “come from the police budget.”

“Landsman wants $200,000 to be pulled from the Cincinnati police budget to fund the Citizen’s Complaint Authority. The CCA is an independent organization that looks into complaints against police officers. ‘I believe the changes that are absolutely public safety related, which these are, should come from the public safety budget, should come from the police budget,’ Landsman said.”

Cheering on the Socialist Squad: Councilman Landsman has a demonstrated track record of aligning himself with the far-left fringe wing of the Democratic Party, including cheering on Socialist Squad leader Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (AOC).

Twitter: In December 2018, Councilman Landsman told Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez to “keep fighting.”
