Suzanne Bonamici: I voted to hold Steve Bannon in contempt

The House Select Committee investigating the insurrection is working to understand what happened on January 6, 2021. But Steve Bannon, Donald Trump's former chief strategist, is defying a subpoena and refusing to testify before Congress.

So today, the House voted to hold Steve Bannon in contempt.

Here's why:

It's simple; no one is above the law. And if Steve Bannon has nothing to hide, he should come before the House Committee and testify. If he's unwilling to testify and help Congress get to the bottom of the violent January 6 insurrection, then he likely does have something to hide and must be held accountable.

I'll never forget what happened on January 6. I was in my office when insurrectionists breached the Capitol building and briefly stopped the peaceful transfer of power in our democratic republic. Because we need to uncover the facts to make sure this kind of attack never happens again, I will vote to hold Steve Bannon in contempt.

We can't move forward until we have answers.
