Suzanne Bonamici: Climate change is here

Oregon

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Today and every day, I think about why I continue the fight against climate change.

We've experienced deadly heat waves, unexpected snowstorms, devastating wildfires, ocean acidification, and more. Climate change is here and it's affecting our lives and livelihoods.

Carbon emissions threaten air quality, our fishing and shellfish industry has been hit hard, and Oregon farmers are struggling with ongoing drought.

I enthusiastically supported President Biden's Build Back Better plan that would have made historic investments in clean energy and millions of good-paying jobs. But, it died in the Senate when all 49 Republican Senators and two Democratic Senators refused to support the bill.

We may have had setbacks, but I'm not giving up. I will keep fighting to pass bold climate action in Congress as long as I'm your representative. And some of my legislation, like my bipartisan Blue Carbon for Our Planet bill, have a good chance of moving forward.

We have a beautiful planet — full of life, amazing ecosystems, and natural wonders. We must protect it for our children, grandchildren, and future generations.
