Battle Creek will remain a designated metropolitan area.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Peter Meijer (R-MI) today applauded the Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB) decision to maintain the current Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA) core population threshold of 50,000. This announcement comes after Rep. Meijer and a bipartisan group of his colleagues expressed strong concerns regarding the proposed reclassification of a MSA as an area with a population of at least 100,000.

“Earlier this year, OMB suggested changes to population designations that would have resulted in a substantial diversion of resources from communities across the country, including right here in West Michigan,” said Rep. Meijer. “I am pleased that the department heeded our calls against this action and that the existing designation for Battle Creek will remain unchanged.”
