Governor J.B. Pritzker: Releases Statement on Passage of Voting Rights Bill

Illinois

SPRINGFIELD — Governor JB Pritzker issued the following statement on the passage of HB 1871, a bill that authorizes local election authorities to use of drop boxes and curbside voting.

"Georgia is the most egregious example of voting rights being restricted but far too many states are making it hard to vote. Here in Illinois, we're shining a bright light on how to make it easier, taking lessons we learned in the pandemic and applying them to the future. I applaud our General Assembly for voting to strengthen vote-by-mail opportunities here in Illinois by allowing local election authorities to use drop boxes and curbside voting. In Illinois, voters will have safe and convenient options to exercise this fundamental, constitutional right. I want to particularly thank Senator Morrison and Representative Stuart for sponsoring this legislation, and I look forward to signing this bill into law to ensure every Illinoisan, especially those who are too often left behind, have their voices heard in our government."
