Washington, DC – Former Vice President Dick Cheney and Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney issued the following joint-statement on the passing of Alaska Congressman Don Young:

“We both had the privilege of serving in the House with Don Young and are deeply saddened to hear the news that he has passed away. There will never be another member of Congress like Don. Over the course of 10 presidential administrations, he maintained a steadfast commitment to fighting for his constituents in Alaska and was a champion for the people he represented. In a city with many pretenders and showhorses, Don was the genuine article. He said exactly what he believed, he had a remarkable sense of humor, and he had a warm heart that brightened the House of Representatives where he served for almost 50 years. Our thoughts and prayers are with Don’s wife, Anne, and his entire family as we all mourn the loss of this American icon.”
