U.S. Representative Peter Meijer (R-MI), a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security (CHS), and 38 of his House Republican colleagues last Friday responded to the migrant surge in Del Rio, Texas, by introducing a resolution urging the Biden Administration to fulfill its duty to fully enforce federal immigration laws.
The resolution requests that the Biden Administration take the following actions:
- Reinstate the Remain in Mexico policy
- Continue to enforce Title 42 expulsions
- Commit more CBP and ICE agents and resources to the southern border
- Support Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s September 20th statewide emergency disaster request
In response to the ongoing crisis at the southern border, Rep. Meijer has also done the following:
- In March, Rep. Meijer sent a letter along with 70 colleagues requesting that the U.S. Government Accountability Office investigate the Biden Administration’s suspension of border wall construction.
- In April, Rep. Meijer visited the southern border alongside his colleagues on the House Committee on Homeland Security (CHS) to see the crisis firsthand.
- In April, Rep. Meijer joined his CHS colleagues in introducing the bipartisan Border Surge Response and Resilience Act, which would require the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to create a plan for addressing irregular migration surges. The bill would also provide funds specifically for the implementation of that plan.
- In July, Rep. Meijer joined his CHS colleagues in introducing the Border Security for America Act of 2021, which would require DHS to secure our international borders by resuming construction of the border wall system, investing in advanced technologies to support CBP and Border Patrol operations, and bolstering support for federal law enforcement officers and specialists.
