Governor Benson’s endorsement is the most significant yet in the 2022 U.S. Senate race, backing Kevin Smith’s insurgent campaign.
LONDONDERRY, NH –The 79th Governor of New Hampshire Craig Benson announced his
endorsement of Kevin Smith’s U.S. Senate campaign on Wednesday morning. Governor
Benson served in the Corner Office from 2003 to 2005 and was the only Republican elected
Governor in New Hampshire during the 2000s until Governor Sununu’s victory in 2016.
“The 2022 election is a pivotal moment for the balance of the U.S. Senate, for New
Hampshire, and for America. I believe Kevin Smith is not only the candidate best able to
beat Maggie Hassan, but also has the conservative credentials and real solutions needed to
bring change to the status quo of Washington D.C. Kevin doesn’t peddle in buzzwords or
empty rhetoric, but clearly articulated ideas that will fight inflation, secure our border, and
restore American Energy Independence.” Benson said.
“Maggie Hassan has proven time and time again that she refuses to stand up to her party
bosses, and she is beholden to her special interests. I know first-hand what it takes to run
against the political establishment and win. I have also seen Kevin’s unrelenting work ethic
and passion for serving New Hampshire firsthand. That’s why I am proud to endorse Kevin
Smith’s campaign for the U.S. Senate.” Benson finished.
“I am honored to accept Governor Benson’s endorsement. Governor Benson’s insurgent
campaign in 2002 ran on conservative principles that shook up the status quo in Concord.
Governor Benson reeled in the size and scope of government, balanced the budget, and
fought against out-of-control spending. That’s exactly what I’m going to do in Washington
D.C.” Smith said.
“My campaign to send a new generation of conservative leadership to Washington is rapidly
gaining momentum, and with the support of great conservative leaders like Governor Craig
Benson, we will beat Maggie Hassan in November.” Smith finished.
