Urges the Biden Administration to end its anti-American energy policy, reduce reliance on Russian energy
Washington, D.C. - Congressman David B. McKinley, P.E. (WV-01) introduced a resolution today following the Russian Invasion of Ukraine, urging the Biden Administration to restore American energy dominance and protect the United States' energy security.
“The incidents this week served as a stark reminder that energy security is national security,” said Rep. McKinley. “Russia’s attack on Ukraine had immediate ramifications on oil prices that will drive the cost of gasoline up even higher. President Biden’s job-killing, anti-American energy policies have forced the U.S. and Europe to rely on Russian oil and natural gas, effectively funding Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine,” said Rep. McKinley.
“It’s time to get serious about American energy independence. Restoring American energy dominance by using our energy resources and sharing with our allies is the most effective way to shut out Russia, weakening Putin’s leverage against the U.S. and ally nations,” said Rep. McKinley. “Rather than shutting down pipelines, restricting energy production and limiting exports, we should be ramping up American energy production to strengthen the economy and allow the U.S. to provide our allies with reliable access to energy.”
"Since his first day in office, Joe Biden has crippled our domestic energy production. American energy security is essential to our economic and national security and reinforced our allies’ ability to access energy resources without the threat of energy blackmail from Vladimir Putin," said Rep. Elise Stefanik (NY-21), House Republican Conference Chairwoman. "The consequences of Joe Biden’s policy has made us more dependent on foreign nations and emboldened our adversaries by providing them with disproportionate influence over global energy markets. In the face of another crisis, Biden must take immediate action to bring back American energy security."
“President Biden’s willingness to appease liberal climate activists by undermining American energy production has seriously weakened our country both at home and abroad. Gas prices have skyrocketed and one in four Americans have admitted to cutting back on buying food and medicine because they are struggling to pay their heating bills this winter,” said Rep. Gary Palmer (AL-06), Republican Policy Committee Chairman. “Because of Biden's energy policies, Russia has received hundreds of billions of dollars in revenue for their oil and natural gas, including sales to the U.S. of 595,000 barrels of oil per day. Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine sadly shows the security risk created by the Biden Administration's policies when it comes to energy production and trade. It’s time for President Biden to recognize the failure of his policies and prioritize restoring America’s energy independence for the good of our own people and of our allies.”
“President Biden’s policies stifled American energy production, drove gas prices to a 7-year high, and gave adversaries like Russia more leverage over Europe. We must reverse this energy and job-killing agenda,” said Rep. Richard Hudson (NC-08), House Republican Conference Secretary. “The crisis in Ukraine underscores the importance of energy security to national security. That’s why I join my colleagues in introducing a resolution today urging President Biden to take immediate action to restore American energy independence, create American jobs, and provide our allies with an affordable and secure energy supply.”
