Today, Rep. Jodey Arrington (TX-19) and Rep. Brian Babin (TX-36) sent a letter to newly appointed border czar and Vice President Kamala Harris inviting her to join their upcoming trip to the southern border.

Just this week President Biden announced that Vice President Harris would lead diplomatic efforts, work with other nations to deter illegal immigration at their borders and to address it in our country.

“Americans need to know their leaders care and are engaged in the most pressing issues facing our nation – I can’t think of a better way for the Vice President to do that than by joining us at ground zero of our border crisis. I promise you this: if he sees the disaster and chaos with her own two eyes and listens first-hard to the citizens living along the border, it will change her perspective and, hopefully, their policies,” said Rep. Arrington.

Excerpts from the letter:

“The goal of this visit will be to see first-hand what the officials and fellow citizens on our southern border are facing on a day-to-day basis. We hope to hear about and witness what encounters and roadblocks they hit when dealing with the overwhelming amount of border crossings and the issues they must address including health screenings, housing, food and transportation needs. In addition to the crossings themselves, we will hear from the DEA about the seizures they conduct every day and the number of drugs they see in our country that originate south of the border.”

As the newly appointed lead of the Biden Administration’s response to the crisis at our southern border, we hope you share our grave concerns about the overwhelming number of crossings and the lack of resources available to accommodate these individuals. We would appreciate the opportunity to work with your Administration to implement policies that will discourage illegal immigration and secure our southern border.”
