WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Peter Meijer (R-MI) today spoke on the floor in support of two of his bills, H.R. 6930, the Asset Seizure for Ukraine Reconstruction Act, and H.R. 7372, the Protecting Semiconductor Supply Chains from Authoritarians Act. Both pieces of legislation passed the House with bipartisan support.

The Asset Seizure for Ukraine Reconstruction Act:

  • Urges the Biden Administration to confiscate any property – including luxury villas, yachts, and airplanes – valued more than $2 million from Russian oligarchs previously sanctioned by the U.S. government for their involvement in Vladimir Putin’s invasion and human rights violations in Ukraine
  • Allows any funds gained from asset sales to be repurposed to benefit the Ukrainian people through the provision of military and humanitarian assistance, post-conflict reconstruction, and technology to ensure the free flow of information in Ukraine
  • Calls on the Biden Administration to expand sanctions on members of Russia’s parliament who took the reckless and illegal vote to recognize two breakaway states in the Donbas and authorize Putin to use military force in Ukraine

The Protecting Semiconductor Supply Chains from Authoritarians Act:

  • Amends the Ukraine Freedom Support Act of 2014 to establish a working group for reporting on the semiconductor supply chain disruptions caused by Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, develop strategies for bolstering supplies of critical elements, compounds, and products, and monitor potential threats to the semiconductor supply chains.
