Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-09), Steve Chabot (OH-01), Gerry E. Connolly (VA-11) and Joe Wilson (SC-05), Chairmen of the bipartisan Caucus on U.S.-Turkey Relations and Turkish Americans, today released the following statement:

“As co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on U.S.-Turkey Relations and Turkish Americans, we condemn the kidnapping and killing of twelve Turkish citizens and one Iraqi citizen. This event is a tragedy, and we extend our condolences to the families of those who lost a loved one. The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (P.K.K.), which is a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization, bears responsibility for their deaths.

“These developments will adversely impact all those who are seeking peace. PKK leaders who authorized these crimes must be held accountable. As the Turkish authorities pursue justice we urge them to keep channels of dialogue open with legitimate Kurdish voices.”
