Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and its Subcommittee on Aviation, today announced two significant grants totaling $14,880,645 to Memphis International Airport from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The funding comes from the Coronavirus Relief and Response Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act of 2020 that Congressman Cohen supported and that became law in December.
The first grant, for $14,384,095, provides economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at the airport. The second grant, for $496,550 provides relief from rent and minimum annual guarantees to on-airport car rental, on-airport parking, and in-terminal concessions.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“Business at all of our airports is down during the ongoing pandemic and this funding is the remedy that supports them until air travel returns to normal. I’m pleased this coronavirus-related relief for Memphis International Airport will keep airport personnel and airport concession employees on the job. This relief is an investment in our airport and the economic engine it represents in our community.”
