Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) made the following statement after learning this morning of the passing of Congressman Alcee Hastings of Florida:
“Alcee Hastings’ was a voice of strength and truth. He was highly respected and revered by his colleagues. He was shaped by his life experiences and that led to his understanding of his purpose, which included the need to allow others to be in a better place. He faced his illness with resolve and never shrank from life. It was an honor to serve with Alcee in Congress and to work closely with him on the U.S. Helsinki Commission. His was a life well lived.”
