Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today released the following statement in observance of Yom Ha’Shoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, on Thursday:

“On Thursday, we will again remember and mourn the six million Jews and other religious, ethnic and marginalized minorities murdered during the Holocaust. As a Tennessee State Senator, I am proud to have drafted and passed a resolution creating one of the first state Holocaust Commissions in America. The Commission has focused on education and outreach to ensure we never forget this history and therefore avoid repeating it. The rise of antisemitism, Holocaust denialism and right-wing intolerance in recent years, here and abroad, reminds us that our remembrance is more important than ever. We must continue to speak out against hatred and bigotry in all its forms and hold in our hearts the commitment that ‘never again’ will they rise again.”

Congressman Cohen is a senior member of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, known as the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and has been outspoken in calling attention to the alarming rise of antisemitism in Europe.
